Bhagavad Gita 5.22

Chapter 5 · The Yoga of Renunciation

The enjoyments that are born of contacts are only generators of pain, for they have a beginning and an end, O Arjuna; the wise man does not rejoice in them.

Context

Pleasures born from sense contact are actually sources of suffering because they have a beginning and an end. The wise don't get caught up in them—not because joy is bad, but because chasing temporary pleasures creates dependency and inevitable disappointment.
