Privacy Policy

Gita Daily ("we", "us") is a mobile app for reading the Bhagavad Gita. This policy explains what information the app collects, why, and the choices you have. We keep data collection to the minimum needed to run the app, and we never sell your data.
Information we collect
- Account information. When you create an account or sign in, we collect your email address (and a unique account identifier). Sign-in is handled through our authentication provider; if you use Google or Apple sign-in, we receive your email address from them to create your account.
- Your activity in the app. Verses you save, your reading streak, and your reading progress, so they're available on your account across devices.
- Preferences. Settings such as your chosen language, theme, and daily-reminder time. Reminder scheduling happens on your device.
- Companion reflections (members only). If you use the reflection companion, the messages you write and the companion's replies are saved to your account, so you can pick a reflection up again and so the companion can remember what you shared about a verse. You can delete all of them at any time in Settings → Companion → Forget my reflections.
- App usage analytics. The app uses Google Analytics for Firebase to understand, in aggregate, how it is used — for example which screens are opened, when a verse's chant is played, or when a verse is saved or shared — and which page of our website or store listing an install came from. These events are not linked to your name or email, never include what you write to the companion, and the advertising ID and ad personalisation are turned off.
- Technical data. Our hosting and infrastructure providers may process limited technical information (such as IP address and request logs) to operate the service securely.
The app does not include advertising, does not use your advertising ID, and does not collect your contacts, location, photos, or precise identifiers. (Analytics on our website is covered separately below.)
How we use your information
- To create and secure your account and sign you in.
- To save your verses, streak, and progress and sync them to your account.
- To send the daily reminder you opt into (scheduled locally on your device).
- To generate the companion's replies to what you write in a reflection.
- To operate, maintain, and improve the app.
Where your data is stored
Account data and saved content are stored using Supabase (authentication and database) and processed by our backend hosted on Railway. These providers act as data processors on our behalf and may store data on servers outside your country.
When you write to the reflection companion, the verse and your conversation are sent to Anthropic, whose AI model writes the companion's replies. Anthropic processes this on our behalf to generate the reply and does not use it to train its models. App usage analytics are processed by Google (Firebase / Google Analytics).
Sharing
We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it for advertising. We share data only with the providers named above (Supabase, Railway, Anthropic and Google), strictly to run and improve the service, and where required by law.
Your choices & your rights
- You can turn daily reminders on or off at any time in the app's settings.
- You can remove saved verses at any time.
- You can delete all your companion reflections at any time in Settings → Companion → Forget my reflections.
- You can request access to, or deletion of, your account and associated data by emailing us at hello@gitadaily.org. We'll action verified requests within a reasonable time.
Data retention
We keep your account data while your account is active. When you ask us to delete your account, we remove your personal data from our systems, except where we must retain it to comply with legal obligations.
Children
Gita Daily is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we'll delete it.
Security
We use reputable providers and standard safeguards (including encrypted connections) to protect your data. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information.
This website (gitadaily.org)
Our website uses Google Analytics to understand, in aggregate, how pages are found and read — for example which guides are popular and roughly where visitors come from — so we can improve the site. We enable IP anonymization, so your full IP address is not stored, and we do not run advertising or sell any data. This website analytics is separate from your app account and is not linked to your identity.
Google Analytics sets cookies in your browser for this purpose. You can block or clear these in your browser settings, use the Google Analytics opt-out add-on, or browse with a tracker-blocking extension — the site works fully either way.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected here with a new "last updated" date.
