Bhagavad Gita 2.20

Chapter 2 · The Yoga of Knowledge

It is not born, nor does It ever die; after having been, It again ceases not to be; unborn, eternal, changeless and ancient, It is not killed when the body is killed.

Context

The self is never born and never dies. It doesn't come into being or cease to exist. Unborn, eternal, ancient—it is not killed when the body is killed. This is one of the Gita's most powerful verses: your essential nature was never created and can never be destroyed. You are beyond time.
