Bhagavad Gita 2.19

Chapter 2 · The Yoga of Knowledge

He who takes the Self to be the slayer and he who thinks It is slain, neither of them knows. It slays not, nor is It slain.

Context

Whoever thinks the self is the slayer or the slain doesn't understand. The self neither kills nor is killed. This dismantles Arjuna's core fear. At the deepest level, nothing real is destroyed in death. This isn't permission for violence—it's freedom from the illusion that death is the ultimate tragedy.
